Our History

abc Therapeutics was originally conceived in 1987 and at that time functioned as a private occupational therapy contracting agency. For the next thirteen years, abc Therapeutics staff provided occupational therapy services to nursing homes, hospitals, home care agencies, hospice programs, preschool and elementary school programs, residential programs for people with developmental disabilities, and early intervention programs on a contractual basis.

In 2000, abc Therapeutics began providing private home based services for children and advocacy/parent training for families. The demand for services grew dramatically and by February 2002 it was evident that a freestanding clinic site was needed in order to deliver services more efficiently, so this is when the Clarence office was opened.

In one short year we outgrew that location and moved to a larger clinic. This allowed us to offer group programs including infant massage classes, educational seminars, handwriting groups, and social skills groups. abc Therapeutics resumed contractual services to early intervention programs and school districts in 2002. Additionally, an adult outpatient clinic was opened in Lockport in 2003 providing services including hand therapy, functional capacity evaluations, and industrial/ergonomic consultation. The Lockport clinic also provides all adult and pediatric splinting, casting, and adaptive equipment fabrication.

In 2005, we tripled the size of our Lockport office. In 2006, we added physical therapy services and in 2007, we purchased a building in East Amherst to house our expanding pediatric programs.

In 2011, we consolidated our offices and began an exciting site expansion of the East Amherst location. We look forward to continuing to develop our programs and are interested in your feedback and suggestions. Also, we remain ever thankful to all of the families, agencies, and other individuals who have been a part of our growth.
